Architectural Designer
Location: Austin, TX
Matt Fajkus Architecture is a dynamic Austin-based practice on the rise, with design awards at local, regional, and national levels. Our founding Principal Architect, Matt Fajkus, is a published author and award-winning Professor at the UT School of Architecture, where he is also the Director of the Graduate Program in Sustainable Design. Sarah Johnson is also Principal Architect at MF Architecture, and she has been recognized as an exceptional emerging leader and talent in a feature editorial article in the Austin Business Journal. While we believe in strong ideas and theoretical narratives to drive our work and our team, we are simultaneously rooted in realizing exceptional buildings, having completed more than 50 buildings to date with widespread recognition, including a 2019 National AIA Design Award.
We are a reflective practice, based on the premise that we learn and grow from each project as part of a larger body of work, in order to ground our process and incrementally innovate as we move ahead. We strive for relevancy beyond the typical boundaries of architecture by pursuing a broad range of projects in terms of scale and type. Furthermore, our press, publicity, social media outreach are means to educate about the value of Architecture – to directly and indirectly affect positive change through design.
Our work has been published in Arch Daily, Dwell Magazine, on National Public Radio, ESPN’s Longhorn Network, Dezeen, Texas Architect, and in The Wall Street Journal.
As a young and energetic practice, we are now seeking new team members to join us in moving to the next level. The ideal candidate for this position will have:
3 or more years of experience in the architectural profession (licensure not required)
Strong design skills and technical skills with an interest in comprehensive quality control
Strong experience and interest in multiple typologies + scales
Internal communication skills, a collaborate spirit, and a positive attitude
External communication capabilities, including with clients, consultants, and general contractors
The ability to multi-task and work at various paces
An ability and interest to learn and grow with us, including developing leadership skills
(Preferably) Production ability (Revit skills, etc.)
(Preferably) Local Knowledge (Austin Construction Budgets, Permitting and Regulatory Processes)

Executive Assistant/Office Manager

Matt Fajkus Architecture is a boutique architecture firm specializing in custom residential and commercial design with an emphasis on sustainability and collaboration.
We are seeking an organized, proactive, and hospitable Executive Assistant and Office Manager to oversee the daily operations of our small but dynamic office and assist both Principal Architects. The ideal candidate will serve as the backbone of our studio, ensuring smooth administrative functions and fostering a positive work environment.
Key Responsibilities
Administrative Management: Manage day-to-day operations, including scheduling, correspondence, and general office maintenance.
Client Support: Serve as the first point of contact for clients, managing inquiries, and coordinating meetings.
Team Coordination: Support architects and designers with project schedules, meeting preparation, and resource organization.
Procurement: Order and maintain office supplies and materials for projects as well as snacks and refreshments
Facilities: Coordinate and monitor office cleans with third party supplier, ensuring effectiveness. Between cleanings, OM responsible for tidying/cleaning spaces and emptying trash/recycling.
HR Support: Assist in onboarding new employees and maintaining employee records as well directing employees to the appropriate party to answer their questions at our HR Consultant firm
Event Planning: Organize team-building events, client presentations, and regular meetings with consultants and contractors
Executive Assistant Tasks: Calendar and email management, travel arrangements, document and meeting preparation, expense management, workload management, errands, food prep, and menial tasks.
Qualifications
No specific previous work experience required
Creative mindset appreciated
Can-do attitude and willingness to learn or receive training
Strong organizational and multitasking skills
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and computers (PCs) a must
Willingness to occasionally assist in manual, physical tasks
Professional attitude and demeanor
